Lil Wayne Explains His Black Lives Matter Comments

Lil Wayne has been feeling the heat ever since Nightline aired their interview with him Tuesday night. During the interview, Tunechi was asked about Black Lives Matter, in which he says that he doesn’t feel any connection to the movement. Now the New Orleans rapper is explaining his thought process, saying that Nightline’s questions about his daughter pissed him off and set the tone for how the rest of the interview would go.

“When the reporter began asking me questions about my daughter being labeled a bitch and a hoe, I got agitated. From there, there was no thought put into her questions and my responses,” he told TMZ.

The question Lil Wayne is referring to is one in which the interviewer brings up Lil Wayne’s lyrics and how some people have called them vulgar and misogynistic. She then asked him if he would have a problem with someone calling his only daughter Reginae Carter, a bitch or a hoe. Lil Wayne answers, “If someone called her a bitch or a hoe, I’d have a huge problem with that. Yeah. But I never called a female by that name unless I got a real big problem with her.”

While answering the question, it doesn’t appear that Lil Wayne is angry, but then again you can’t really tell what a person is truly feeling based on the answers they give. In the full episode of the Nightline interview, the Black Lives Matter question does not come directly after the question about his daughter. Again, this could be editing, so it’s unclear whether or not one question truly lead to the other.

Regardless, Wayne offers his sincere apologies.

“Apologies to anyone who was offended,” he tells TMZ. He also tweeted, “Is intelligence always misunderstood?” which leads one to believe that he feels his words were taken out of context.
