Lena Dunham has been under fire over the last couple of months. Initially, fans were not pleased when she condemned Odell Beckham Jr. for not wanting to sleep with her. The “Girls” creator accused Beckham of being shallow and ignoring her because of the way she looked. After the backlash Dunham explained the interaction with the New York Giant, or lack thereof, was based on her own “insecurities” not Beckham’s behavior. Although, she has since apologized, it seems she’s her words have gotten her in trouble once again.
On the latest episode of her podcast, the actress said that she wishes she would have had an abortion to contest the “stigma around this issue.”
“Something I’ve thought about a lot is the fact that there is stigma around abortion,” Dunham said.
She went on to discuss the time she went to a Planned Parenthood in Texas. Apparently, at the time, a girl asked her to be a part of a project where women share their stories of the procedure.
“I sort of jumped,” she said. “’I haven’t had an abortion,’ I told her. I wanted to make it really clear to her that as much as I was going out and fighting for other women’s options, I myself had never had an abortion.”
“Even I,” she continued, “was carrying within myself stigma around this issue. Even I, the woman who cares as much as anybody about a woman’s right to choose, felt it was important that people know I was unblemished in this department.”
“Now I can say that I still haven’t had an abortion, but I wish I had,” Dunham said.
It was then, when people took to twitter to denounce Dunham’s comments.
It appears Dunham has yet to comment on the outrage at her statement.
