Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has found himself involved in a scandal involving the use of PEDs.
“The Dark Side: Secrets of the Sports Dopers” is a documentary where Liam Collins, a British hurdler, goes undercover as an athlete trying for his last shot at the 2016 Olympics, in an attempt to expose the use of PEDs in sports. As part of his findings he reportedly discovered that an anti-aging clinic in Indianapolis supplied Manning with human growth hormone (HGH) which is banned by the NFL. The pharmacist, Charlie Sly, says they would deliver the drugs to Manning’s wife, Ashley, to keep Manning’s name from being attached to them.
Many other high-profile athletes were exposed in the film including Ryan Howard, James Harrison, Julius Peppers, Ryan Zimmerman, and Mike Tyson. Charlie Sly also says that he provided Clay Matthews Percocet to help him deal with pain after games. Sly says that Matthews also contacted him to obtain Toradol, a powerful painkiller that is banned in many countries.
Payton Manning has denied the allegations that he has ever used HGH. “The allegation that I would do something like that is complete garbage and is totally made up,” said the quarterback. “It never happened. Never. I really can’t believe somebody would put something like this on the air. Whoever said this is making stuff up.” As far as his wife’s medical treatments, he says “that’s her business.”
“The Dark Side” airs on Al-Jazeera Sunday night.
