Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is firmly denying claims about performance enhancing drugs that were raised in an upcoming Al Jazeera documentary.
The film, called The Dark Side: Secrets of the Sports Dopers, follows British hurdler Liam Collins, who goes undercover as an athlete chasing a spot at the 2016 Olympics. According to reports on the documentary, a pharmacist named Charlie Sly says on camera that an Indianapolis anti aging clinic supplied human growth hormone, which is banned by the NFL, and that it was shipped to Manning’s wife, Ashley. Manning has not been accused of failing any league test.
Manning responded strongly to the report. He called the allegation “complete garbage” and “totally made up,” saying it never happened and that he cannot believe someone would put it on the air. As for his wife’s medical treatments, he said that is her business.
The documentary also makes claims about other athletes. Those are allegations from the film, and we are not repeating them here because the people involved had not confirmed them.
The Dark Side is scheduled to air Sunday night on Al Jazeera.
