The leaked Access Hollywood footage of Billy Bush and Donald Trump may have come from inside NBC, according to a new report.
The tape, which captured Trump making crude remarks about women, surfaced ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Trump went on to win, while Bush lost his job at NBC.
According to Page Six, one source claims a TODAY Show staffer leaked the tape. The source said NBC News knew about the tape for a while and that people in the news division grew frustrated that Access Hollywood was taking too long to air it. The same source claimed the leak also helped push Bush aside because Matt Lauer did not like him, and that NBC thought it would hurt Trump.
Page Six also reported that a second source disputes that version. That source said the leak did not come from TODAY and instead came from someone on the West Coast who wanted to take Bush down.
Neither account has been confirmed.
