A ruling has been passed down in the divorce proceedings between Lisa Marie Presley and her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood. According to reports, Elvis Presley’s daughter will not have to pay spousal support amid the battle over Presley’s possessions, but she will have to pay a portion of Lockwood’s legal fees, a judge ruled Wednesday.
The two have been fighting over the amount Lockwood is entitled to in the divorce. Sources say, he is challenging the legitimacy of the paperwork he signed after the two tied the knot in 2006. Initially, Lockwood was asking for $40,000 a month in spousal support but the judge said the case will have to go to trial to determine an amount, if any.
The ruling comes a few days after Lisa Marie’s eight-year-old twin daughters, Finley and Harper, were taken by California’s Department of Children and Family Services, after “pictures and disturbing videos” were found on Lockwood’s computer.
In the midst of the child welfare case, Lisa Marie, the ex-wife of both Michael Jackson Nicolas Cage, filed documents claiming she’s in major debt. However, Lockwood’s lawyer, Jeff Sturman, has argued that Lisa Marie has failed to prove her monetary issues. Sturman also says that Lisa Marie had ran into a few million dollars in payouts from the Presley estate. But, Lisa Marie’s lawyer refuted those claims, saying she has not paid the taxes she owed last year, because she is in debt. In turn, Sturman says if his client doesn’t receive any compensation, he will continue to live in a “state of poverty.” Which Lisa Marie’s counsel responded, telling the opposing party to get a job.
Despite Lisa Marie’s financial woes, a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge ordered Lisa Marie to pay $50,000 to the lawyer representing the unemployed musician.
The two are set to meet again in court next month for the child welfare case regarding their children.
