On top of that, the J.J Abrams film earned a whopping $517 million in worldwide ticket sales. These numbers will only increase considering the fact that Star Wars has yet to hit theatres in China. The film will be released there on January 9.

Prior to Star Wars, Universal’s “Jurassic World,” which drew $208.8 million during the summer, held the opening record.
