A Miami event billed as a medical marijuana gathering ended with an arrest and a large seizure over the weekend, according to Miami New Times.
Florida voters approved Amendment 2 in November, which allows marijuana use to treat a debilitating medical condition. But police say the event on West Flagler Street went well beyond what the law allows.
Miami police were called on Sunday about illegally parked cars outside the building. When officers asked for the person in charge, 32 year old Leandro came forward. According to Miami New Times, Leandro told police the event was open to the public as part of the Amendment 2 push for marijuana. Officers then reportedly smelled marijuana.
The police report states that several patrons saw officers and fled out the back door, which led police to call in the narcotics unit. Leandro was arrested, and officers reportedly learned his lease had expired the day before the event.
After getting a search warrant, police say they found tables with glass smoking devices containing suspected THC residue, along with suspected edibles and suspected synthetic substances. Authorities say they seized 51.1 pounds of marijuana in all. Charges are allegations until proven in court, and Baller Alert will share any response from Leandro.
