Back in March, 19-year-old Breana Harmon ran into a Texas church half-naked, claiming she had just been kidnapped and gang raped by three black men.
Earlier that day, a man who claimed to be the teen’s fiancé reported her missing. According to reports, the man told cops that Harmon’s car was found in a parking lot with the driver’s door open and her belongings spread out around the car. Hours later, Breana Harmon, then 18 years old, arrived at a Texas church, wearing only a shirt, bra, and underwear and covered in blood.
Upon Harmon’s arrival, she told witnesses that she’d been kidnapped from her car, taken into a nearby wooded area and raped by two black men as another held her down. She was then taken to the hospital for treatment. However, when doctors examined her, they did not find any injuries to support her claims.
After further investigation, officials were able to conclude that the teen had staged the scene and made false rape claims. They also determined the teen’s wounds were self-inflicted. Harmon eventually admitted to lying about the rape and revealed it was all a hoax.
“Breana Harmon Talbott’s hoax was also insulting to our community and especially offensive to the African American community due to her description of the so-called suspects in her hoax,” the police chief said in a statement of the March 8th incident.
On Wednesday, the teen was charged with two counts of tampering with physical evidence for lying to the police and two counts of tampering with government record. If convicted, Harmon faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
