A 22 year old Michigan woman named Lovily was charged on Monday with felony murder and first degree child abuse after the death of her six month old son, according to court filings and local reports.
According to an affidavit from a Wyoming, Michigan detective, Lovily brought her son to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital on July 19. The detective wrote that the child was clearly deceased on arrival and had been for some time, and that she told investigators the baby had been in her care for the previous four days.
The detective alleged in the affidavit that the infant was not fed after Monday evening and remained buckled in a car seat on the upper floor of an apartment without air conditioning. She was arrested hours after arriving at the hospital.
At her arraignment, a judge read the charges, and she was denied bond. Prosecutors said that if convicted she would face a mandatory life sentence. These are allegations made in court documents. She has not been convicted, and the case was still in its early stages at the time of this post.
