Man Killed In “Revenge” 10 Years After Saving A Young Girl From Brutal Gang Rape

Back in 2007, at the age of 14, Abraham Badru saved a young girl from a gang-rape. Despite the heroic act, Badru’s good deed left him with a target on his back, as he had to provide a statement to police, identify the attackers,  and testify at trial.

However, his heroism did bring some good, including a £500 reward for testifying and the National Police Bravery Award, as officials believed the 14-year-old victim would have died without his help. But, it also brought a lifetime of fear after he began receiving death threats for his actions.

In the incident, which occurred on April 30, 2007, Badru was invited to a party inside a high-rise flat, however, when he arrived he witnessed a young girl being gang raped and punished by up to nine boys for “disrespecting” 14-year-old gang member, O’Neil Denton. In reality, the young girl had been thinking about breaking up with Denton, as the two had been dating. But, when Denton got word of the breakup, he and his gang ambushed the young girl and raped her for two hours.

Lucky for the girl though, Badru arrived and helped her escape. But, more than a decade later, Badru’s good deed caught up to him. On March 25, 2018, just after Badru arrived at his home in Hackney, East London, the hero was gunned down as he stepped out of his car. According to the Daily Mail, a neighbor heard the shots and quickly tried to save him, but he died at the scene.

“I ran to him but the police wouldn’t let me go to him,” Badru’s mother said. “I was crying, screaming, for my son. For 10 years, Abraham was afraid that someone would try to kill him. And now it has happened. I am empty. He was killed for being a hero. How can that possibly be right,” Ronke said, adding that she believed “in my heart” that Badru’s murder was revenge. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

However, officials say it may have also been a case of mistaken identity. According to the publication, Badru’s murder was the 10th in the capital in just 12 days, as the city has been ridden with a number of gang knife and gun killings.
