A London man who was honored by police as a teenager for helping a girl in danger has been shot and killed, according to the Daily Mail.
The Daily Mail reports that Abraham was shot outside his home in Hackney, East London, on March 25, 2018, just after he arrived home. A neighbor reportedly heard the shots and tried to help, but Abraham died at the scene.
According to the report, Abraham had come to the aid of a girl in 2007, when he was 14. He later gave a statement to police and testified at trial, and he received a police bravery award and a reward for his role. The Daily Mail reports he received threats afterward.
His mother, Ronke, told the paper she believes the killing was revenge. “He was killed for being a hero,” she said.
Officials have not confirmed a motive. The Daily Mail reports that authorities said it could also have been a case of mistaken identity, noting the shooting was the 10th killing in London in just 12 days amid a wave of gang related violence.
