As #LeBronJames looks to heighten his legacy with another eastern conference championship, the city that he’s from is looking to commemorate the legend that he already is. ⠀⠀
A fundraiser has started in Akron, Ohio in an effort to build a statue of James in his hometown.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Monday, a GoFundMe account hit the Internet with a goal to raise one million dollars to go toward the construction of the structure.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The fundraiser was started by Aaron Carey, a resident who played basketball at the same high school as James.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“We want fans to be able to thank LeBron for what he has done for Akron and the Cavs,” Carey told the Akron Beacon-Journal.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As for the 3-time NBA Champion, when asked about the news of the fundraiser, James was touched.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“First of all, thank you,” he said. “It would be cool, not only for myself but for my family and all the people that had anything to do with this journey thus far. I’m appreciative even of the thought.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While funds are being raised in his honor, James is looking to lead the Cavaliers to an NBA Championship. The Cavs are currently tied 2-2 for the series against the Boston Celtics after a 111-102 win Monday.
