The legal fight between Matt Barnes and his ex Gloria Govan is heating up. Earlier this month, Govan filed a lawsuit against Barnes, saying his claims that she stole money from him and forged his signature on home and business purchases for her family have damaged her reputation. Barnes has now countersued, accusing Govan, her brother and her parents of fraud.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Barnes claims Govan and her family planned to take more than $300,000 of his money to buy a home in Oakland, California. He alleges her brother was used as a straw buyer, and that Barnes’ signature was forged as co buyer. Barnes says the family pretended to be him to push the purchase through.
Barnes also claims that after the home was bought, the title was moved to Govan and a shell company was created, removing his name. He says more than $300,000 was sent to a private account. He is seeking unspecified damages and a court ruling that he is the rightful owner of the home.
These are allegations from court filings, and none have been proven. Govan’s own lawsuit disputes his claims and says they are false.
