Stop Telling Celebs How To Spend Their Money

Floyd Mayweather has done it again with the purchase of his $18 million “Billionaire Watch.”

This week the retired boxing champ caused a social media frenzy after he posted an Instagram video displaying the 260 carats, emerald-cut diamond watch. The viral post immediately prompted a list of mixed responses from his 20 million-plus followers, including his close friend, 50 Cent.

“Man they done found the 1 fool in the world dumb enough to buy that watch,” the hip-hop mogul wrote on his Instagram account before concluding with his favorite quote, “LOL get the strap.”

In addition to Mayweather, other entertainers have been criticized for their recreational spending habits. Who could forget about Master P’s 2000 episode of MTV’s “Cribs” where the mogul showcased his gold ceiling home or Beyoncé’s 2007 BET Awards performance where she sported a pair of $100k gold Balenciaga leggings? And let’s not forget Oprah Winfrey’s hand-carved tub made out of marble and onyx.

Granted, anyone –famous or nonfamous — who makes an honest living should be able to enjoy the fruits of their hard earned labor. However, some fans feel entitled to dictate the spending habits of entertainers.
