A group of men is accused of scamming hotels in Georgia by posing as people connected to well known rap acts, according to ABC News. Prosecutors say the group collected more than 100,000 dollars in services after telling employees they were affiliated with Roc Nation.
A criminal complaint filed in federal court in Atlanta says the group used the name of the rap group Wu-Tang Clan as part of the alleged plan. The complaint also says the group rented a Rolls Royce from A National Limousine, which reported losses of about 60,000 dollars.
According to the complaint, the group left The Georgian Terrace Hotel in Atlanta without paying a 45,000 dollar bill. The FBI says a similar situation happened at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, where a 39,000 dollar bill went unpaid.
Reports say the plan fell apart at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Augusta, where the group booked 10 rooms for an artist and his entourage under the names Roc Nation and Wu-Tang Clan. Hotel staff grew suspicious, and the hotel sales director called Roc Nation, which denied any connection to the men booking the rooms.
When Aaron, one of the men named in the case, went to check in, he and others were arrested by Richmond County sheriff’s deputies. According to reports, two of the men told authorities they were homeless men from Atlanta who were asked by Aaron and a man named Walker to act as the group’s bodyguards.
Aaron and Walker have been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, ABC News reports. The complaint says the defendants used a stolen credit card and another card that was likely fake. Charges are allegations, and the case was still pending at the time of this report. Other men traveling with them had not been charged.
