Lonzo Ball Says He’s “Glad” Mom Tina Ball Left LaVar As Fans Blame Her For The Split

Lonzo Ball is stepping into the middle of a very public family conversation after rumors about his parents’ separation started running wild online. The split discussion picked up steam after LaVar Ball recently spoke about the end of his nearly 30-year marriage to Tina Ball during an appearance on N3on’s livestream.

LaVar said Tina “decided to go her own way” and added, “We had our run.” That comment quickly fueled a wave of reactions, especially because LaVar also opened up last year about having part of his leg amputated due to complications from diabetes.

However, Lonzo says the internet has the story twisted.

During the Wednesday, July 1 episode of the “Ball in the Family” podcast, Lonzo addressed the speculation directly and pushed back against the idea that Tina simply walked away on her own terms.

“First and foremost, I wanna say I love both my parents, but the situation that is put before y’all is not how it went down,” he said on Wednesday’s episode. “I’m not about to get into all the details, but long story short, my mom didn’t wanna leave. She was quote, unquote, damn near forced to leave. I helped her leave. I’m glad she left. She’s in a great spot.”

That one statement changed the tone of the whole conversation. Lonzo did not give specific details about what led to Tina leaving, and he made it clear he was not trying to unpack every private family issue in public. Still, he wanted people to know that the version being passed around online did not match what he says happened behind the scenes.

Lonzo also addressed one of the biggest rumors attached to the split: the claim that Tina left LaVar because of his amputation. He shut that down completely.

“They obviously don’t f**k with each other, but I f**k with ‘em both,” he said. “She was not wrong at all. She did not leave him because he lost his foot. That’s a myth that was put out there. What else have I seen? I don’t know. But my dad did a great job raising us, my mom did a great job raising us, they didn’t work out, and it is what it is, man. They’re both doing well and I love ‘em both. We can move on now.”

The timing made the rumors louder. In March 2025, LaVar spoke to SLAM about the health scare that led to his amputation, saying an infection in his foot spread through his blood because he had not been paying close enough attention to his diabetes. He said doctors first removed toes, then his foot, before performing another surgery near the knee. He also said his sons helped him push through a dark period during his recovery.

Meanwhile, Tina has long been a beloved figure in the Ball family story. She and LaVar married in 1997 and share three sons: Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo. The family became a major sports and entertainment storyline during the rise of Big Baller Brand, the Chino Hills basketball era, and the Facebook Watch reality series “Ball in the Family.” Tina also suffered a major stroke in 2017, which later became part of the family’s public story as they navigated her recovery.

That history is why the separation hit fans differently. For years, the Ball family brand was built on unity, loud confidence, and LaVar’s larger-than-life role as the father steering the ship. Now, the family is dealing with a much more personal chapter in public view, and Lonzo is making it clear he does not want his mother painted as the villain.

Still, he stopped short of turning the moment into a full takedown. Instead, Lonzo walked a careful line: defending Tina, correcting rumors, and still giving both parents credit for raising him and his brothers.

It is also worth noting where Lonzo stands in his own career. After being drafted No. 2 overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2017, he went on to play for the New Orleans Pelicans, Chicago Bulls, and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers traded him to the Utah Jazz in February 2026, and Utah waived him shortly after. Even with his own basketball journey still evolving, Lonzo chose to use his platform to calm the noise around his family.

For now, the public has two very different versions of how the separation unfolded. LaVar framed it as Tina choosing to move on. Lonzo says she did not want to leave and was “damn near forced” to do so. What he did not do is give the internet every private detail, which may be the smartest move in a situation already messy enough.

What is clear is that Lonzo wants one rumor dead immediately: Tina did not leave because LaVar lost his foot. According to him, that narrative is false, both of his parents are doing well separately, and the family is ready for people to stop filling in the blanks with drama.
