There have been some new developments in former NFL baller, Aaron Hernandez’s first murder trial.

According to reports, the former New England Patriot’s phone calls were tapped prior to his first murder trial. Apparently, the counsel on both sides had no idea. Sources say, the hack occurred two years ago, when Hernandez was being held in a Boston jail. One year later, the former football star was convicted of killing his fiancé’s sister’s boyfriend in 2013, reports state.

“During a routine security check, out Sheriff’s Investigative Division discovered that Securus’ telephone database had been accessed for calls relating to detainee Hernandez,” a spokesperson for the Suffolk Sheriff’s Department said.

Apparently, the issue was resolved by “tightening the restrictions of user access,” the spokesperson said of the hack.

While, Hernandez’s previous defense declined to comment on their knowledge of the hack, his current defense and the prosecution both revealed they were unaware. Reports say, Ronald Sullivan, who is part of Hernandez’s new defense team, said they will look into the situation.

Hernandez is currently serving life without parole for the crime. However, he is still awaiting trial in a 2012 double homicide in Boston.
