Sad news. Adrian Peterson’s 2 year old son has died after being hospitalized in critical condition following an alleged assault in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The death was confirmed by Sioux Falls police to NFL Media and first reported Friday by KARE 11 and NFL.com.
According to TMZ, the boy had been on life support since Thursday but his condition never improved, and family members made the decision to take him off the ventilator. TMZ also reported that Peterson was informed before the news went public and is planning the funeral with other members of the boy’s family.
Joseph Patterson, the man dating the child’s mother, was arrested and charged with aggravated felony assault and battery of an infant. TMZ reported that the charges were expected to be elevated. A charge is not a conviction. Police said medical responders were called to the apartment on Wednesday evening and found the child unresponsive. Details surrounding the incident were still unclear at the time of this report.
Peterson’s father, Nelson Peterson, asked for prayers and respect for the family. We send our deepest condolences to Peterson and his loved ones.
