Chingy just revealed that actor Isaiah Russell-Bailey is his son during an interview with Jason Lee, but what happened after the family bombshell has social media wondering if everything is good between the two.

While appearing on “The Jason Lee Show,” the “Right Thurr” rapper opened up about his children and revealed that he is actually a father of four, with two sons and two daughters. When Lee questioned why the public appeared to know more about some of his children than others, Chingy dropped a name that caught plenty of viewers off guard.“Actually, my youngest son, Isaiah, is a big actor out here in California,” Chingy revealed.
He then clarified exactly who he was talking about: “Isaiah Russell-Bailey.”
Yes, that Isaiah Russell-Bailey.
For fans who watched Netflix’s hit sitcom “Family Reunion,” the connection was especially surprising because Isaiah built a recognizable Hollywood career without his famous father being a major part of his public identity.
Isaiah, 19, began collecting professional acting credits in 2018, years before his relationship to Chingy became a trending topic. His early résumé included appearances on “Criminal Minds,” where he played a young Kevon Winters, “Giants,” “S.W.A.T.” and Disney Channel’s “Raven’s Home.”
His biggest television break arrived with Netflix’s “Family Reunion.” Isaiah starred as Shaka McKellan, one of the children at the center of the family comedy alongside Tia Mowry, Anthony Alabi, Loretta Devine, Talia Jackson and Cameron J. Wright. The series premiered in 2019 and helped introduce Isaiah to a much larger audience.
The young actor soon expanded into movies.
In 2020, Isaiah joined Netflix’s superhero film “We Can Be Heroes,” appearing alongside YaYa Gosselin, Pedro Pascal, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Christian Slater.
Then came one of the biggest roles of his young career.
Isaiah led Disney+’s 2023 sci-fi adventure “Crater” as Caleb Channing, a teenager raised on a lunar mining colony who goes on one final adventure with his friends before being sent to another planet. The film also starred McKenna Grace and Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi. Disney officially billed Russell-Bailey as the film’s central character.
In other words, Isaiah already had Netflix, Disney, and major network television credits under his belt long before the internet collectively learned Chingy was his dad.
One person who has been very visible throughout Isaiah’s journey is his mother, Brittany Perry-Russell.
Perry-Russell has her own lengthy entertainment résumé as an actress, dancer, choreographer, and producer. Her professional dance career has included work with stars such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Pharrell and Cardi B, while her acting credits include “13 Reasons Why,” “Family Reunion,” “Glee” and films including “Sparkle.”
She has also been open about raising Isaiah.
During a previous conversation about motherhood and her career, Perry-Russell described herself plainly as a “single mother.” In another interview discussing the pressure of parenting, she said, “I’m a single mom. I’ve been doing it by myself the entire time.”
That history is part of the reason Isaiah’s next move had social media raising its eyebrows.
Shortly after Chingy publicly identified Isaiah as his son, the actor hopped on Instagram.
But he did not post his father.
Instead, Isaiah uploaded a carousel honoring his mother and gave her all the credit in the caption.
“Everything I am, I owe to the woman who has always been there. Grateful for you always #Mom,” he wrote.
Now, Isaiah never mentioned Chingy by name, so calling the post a direct diss would be a reach. However, the timing, mixed with the phrase “the woman who has always been there,” immediately had people reading between the lines.
And apparently, the caption was not the only thing that got people talking.
Reports indicate Isaiah appeared to like several comments that praised his mother while criticizing Chingy and questioning how involved the rapper had been in Isaiah’s upbringing.
His mother appeared to add even more fuel to the speculation with a message posted to her Instagram Story.
“You know what’s a flex? Being the same person in real life as you are on social media,” Perry-Russell wrote.
Neither Isaiah nor his mother directly said the posts were about Chingy, meaning any connection remains speculation. Still, with Chingy’s interview making headlines at the same time, people quickly started putting the pieces together themselves.
Chingy appeared proud while talking about Isaiah’s success. He described his youngest son as a major actor in California and pointed to his Disney work while telling Jason Lee about his family.
But Isaiah’s response has shifted the conversation from simply discovering that Chingy has a famous son to questions about what their relationship has actually looked like behind closed doors.
There is also no denying that Isaiah has established his own name.
From “Family Reunion” to “We Can Be Heroes” and “Crater,” Russell-Bailey built a résumé that stands on its own. His mother, meanwhile, has been the parent publicly seen alongside him throughout much of that journey.
So while Chingy may have just introduced a whole new group of fans to the fact that Isaiah Russell-Bailey is his son, Isaiah’s perfectly timed tribute made something else very clear.
When it came time to publicly thank the person he credits for helping make him who he is, he made sure everybody knew exactly who that person was.
