Afrika Bambaataa is speaking out about the sexual abuse allegations made against him. The hip hop pioneer was recently removed from his position with the Universal Zulu Nation, and he sat down with New York’s Fox 5 for a two part interview.
Three men have publicly accused Bambaataa of abuse decades ago, and a fourth man, described as a former bodyguard, has reportedly backed up their claims. Before this interview, Bambaataa had only briefly addressed the matter on Ed Lover’s morning radio show.
Bambaataa flatly denies the claims. He told Fox 5 that he never abused anyone and said the allegations sound crazy to him. He also questioned why none of the many people around him back then ever heard about it at the time. He wondered aloud about the motivation behind the accusations, suggesting people may have their own agendas.
Reports note that because the alleged incidents date back more than 30 years, a criminal investigation may not be possible. Ronald, one of the accusers, is now 50 years old, and Bambaataa said he never touched him. No charges have been filed. These remain allegations, and Bambaataa has denied them.
