Police have arrested an Alabama teacher for allegedly sexually abusing a student.
Ashton Alana McCluskey is a married 26-year-old 7th-grade math teacher at Brooks High School. McCluskey has been teaching there since 2017, and she also acted as the school’s cheer coach, Yahoo! News reports.
Back in January, McCluskey was put on administrative leave after being accused of having illegal sex with a minor student.
This past month, the woman was charged with two counts of sexual conduct with a student under the age of 17. The ex-teacher turned herself in to the police on Wednesday. However, she was released on a $50,000 bond.
According to WAFF-TV, someone connected to the case is related to an employee at the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office. Because there was a conflict of interest, the case was assigned to the State Bureau of Investigation.
McCluskey could be looking at up to 20 years in prison if she is convicted.
