Marshae, a Birmingham, Alabama woman, has been indicted on a manslaughter charge after her unborn child died when she was shot during an altercation outside a local Dollar Store, according to reporting by AL.com.
Marshae was five months pregnant in December 2018 when Ebony shot her in the stomach during a dispute involving the father of Marshae’s baby. Ebony was initially charged with manslaughter, but a grand jury chose not to indict her and the charge was dismissed.
Pleasant Grove Police Lt. Danny Reid said Ebony was defending herself after Marshae started the fight. He told AL.com that he believes some responsibility for the injury to the unborn child lies with the mother who initiated the altercation. Reid also said, “Let’s not lose sight that the unborn baby is the victim here.”
Marshae was transferred to Jefferson County Jail, where she was reported to be held on a $50,000 bond. An indictment is an allegation, not a finding of guilt.
