Alaska Airlines is the first major US airline to offer subscription-based travel plans.
The airline announced Flight Pass on Wednesday, and it is immediately available to purchase with plans starting as low as $49. The subscription allows members to fly on up to 24 roundtrip flights per year between 16 different West Coast cities.
“Flight Pass builds on our mission to offer travelers the most West Coast destinations at the best value,” said Alex Corey, managing director of business development and products for Alaska Airlines. “Our commitment to care means offering convenient and affordable options that fit our guests’ lifestyle and connect them to where they want to go.”
He added, “After two years of staying close to home, guests are ready to travel again, and with 100 daily flights from 16 airports throughout California and between California to Reno, Phoenix, and Las Vegas, Flight Pass will take them there.”
There are two plans available, Flight Pass and Flight Pass Pro. Plan’s start at $49 and go up to $749. The only difference between each plan is the booking window. Both plans allow subscribers to book 90 days out, but Pro allows same-day bookings, and Flight Pass allows bookings as early as two weeks out.
Once the subscriber chooses their plan, they can add 6, 12, or 24 roundtrip flights a year. Credits are uploaded into the user’s account monthly or bi-monthly. The only downside is you can only book roundtrip flights, so there are no one-way or multi-segment bookings. Another downside is that the credits have an expiration date.
