Prosecutors in Utah have filed charges against the man seen pointing a bow and arrow at demonstrators during a George Floyd protest in downtown Salt Lake City, according to the Salt Lake Tribune and KSL.
Brandon, 57, of Taylorsville, was charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, all felonies, according to charging documents reported by KSL. He also faces a misdemeanor count of threatening or using a dangerous weapon in a fight. Prosecutors asked for bail to be set at $100,000. A response from Brandon or an attorney for him was not included in the reports. Charges are allegations, and he has not been convicted.
Here is what the charging documents and witnesses describe. During Saturday’s protest near 400 South and 200 East, Brandon’s car stopped in traffic. He got out, yelled “all lives matter,” and walked toward the crowd with a large knife. He then reportedly took a bow from his car, loaded an arrow, and pointed it at people as if to shoot. Video of the moment shows people in the crowd tackling him almost immediately. No injuries from the bow and arrow incident were reported.
Prosecutors say he is considered a restricted person because of a previous conviction in California, which bars him from having dangerous weapons.
