Former NFL Star Allen Bailey Dies at 37: Brother Confirms Tragic News After Wife Finds His Body

Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Allen Bailey was found dead inside his Florida home on Tuesday, October 20, leaving his family mourning the loss of the former NFL player at just 37 years old.

Bailey’s brother, Alford Bailey Jr., confirmed that the athlete’s wife discovered his body at their residence. The heartbreaking news became public Wednesday, October 21.

Bailey’s family reportedly believes he died from natural causes. However, an official cause of death has not been publicly confirmed.

The news marks a devastating loss for those who knew Bailey throughout his football career, which took him from a small Georgia island to the University of Miami and eventually the NFL.

Bailey spent 10 seasons in the league, establishing himself as a defensive lineman with the Kansas City Chiefs before finishing his professional career with the Atlanta Falcons.

According to NFL records, Bailey appeared in 133 regular-season games, recording 22 sacks and 248 combined tackles. He also made 70 starts throughout his career.

The Chiefs selected Bailey with the 86th overall pick in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft after his impressive college career with the Miami Hurricanes.

He played eight seasons in Kansas City, from 2011 through 2018, and developed into a regular contributor on the team’s defensive front.

His most productive season as a pass rusher came in 2018, when he recorded six sacks in 16 games, according to NFL statistics. That season marked his final year with Kansas City before he moved to Atlanta.

Bailey joined the Falcons in 2019 and played two seasons with the organization. He appeared in 31 games for Atlanta before the team released him in 2021.

Long before reaching the NFL, Bailey was building his football career in Georgia.

Born March 25, 1989, Bailey grew up on Sapelo Island and attended McIntosh County Academy before earning the opportunity to play college football at the University of Miami.

According to Miami Hurricanes athletics records, Bailey became a two-time All-ACC selection and finished his college career with 103 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks across 50 games.

His accomplishments in college helped him secure a place in the NFL, where he would spend the next decade competing at the professional level.

Away from football, Bailey remained connected to his Georgia roots through charitable work focused on young athletes and families.

According to the Allen Bailey Foundation, the former NFL player established the organization to support youth development through education, athletics, and community outreach.

The foundation has organized free football camps, school supply giveaways, and holiday food drives for families in southeast Georgia. Its annual Thanksgiving program has distributed hundreds of turkeys to households, while its youth football camps have provided young players access to athletic instruction and mentorship.

Bailey’s commitment to his hometown continued beyond his retirement from professional football, with the foundation expanding its efforts to help students pursue athletic and educational opportunities.

His passing leaves behind a 10-season NFL career and a record of community involvement that extended far beyond the football field.
