On Tuesday, American Airlines CEO and senior vice president met with civil rights leaders in the wake of a recent incident, in which a black woman was kicked off a flight over a seating change dispute.
The Airline said CEO Doug Parker had a “positive” meeting with NAACP President Derrick Johnson, Women’s March leader Tamika Mallory-the victim in the recent incident, and others. However, Mallory still believes the airline has an issue and the discriminatory treatment of African Americans needs to be addressed.⠀
“A good sign is that the CEO came to the table himself for this conversation,” Mallory said, “but one meeting doesn’t solve the problem. Nothing has necessarily been resolved.”
On the other hand, the airline said it looks “forward to continuing the conversation and working together,” with the civil rights leaders. “We welcomed the opportunity to meet, and had a positive and productive dialogue,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
According to CBS, the airline has been accused of racial discrimination on 29 accounts since 2016, which is more than any other U.S. airline.
