An American concert promoter and his son are being held in Angola after Nas failed to show up for a New Year’s Eve concert there.
Patrick Allocco of AllGood Entertainment booked Nas, along with Atlanta opening act Jemiah Jai, to perform in Angola on New Year’s Eve. A local businessman had fronted $315,000 for the show. When Nas and Jemiah Jai didn’t board their international flight, Allocco and his son were taken and held at a hotel until the money is returned.
Reports say they have not been harmed. The local backer reportedly feared Allocco would leave the country before the money issue was resolved.
“The hope is that Nas and Jemiah Jai will return all of the monies that were wired to them immediately so that our ransom may be paid and our safe return to the United States may be facilitated,” Allocco’s team said in a statement.
Nas says the missed show came down to a miscommunication about travel plans. He has agreed to return the money he was paid and is working on getting it to the right people so Allocco can come home.
It’s a scary reminder of how serious money problems can get, especially overseas. Hopefully the money gets where it needs to go and the Alloccos make it home safely.
