Angel Reese is the first player in WNBA history to grab 500 rebounds in a single season. The Atlanta Dream forward reached the mark in the first half of Saturday night’s 106 to 81 win over the Chicago Sky, the same team that traded her this offseason.
Reese walked into the game with 495 rebounds and needed only one half to get the five she was missing. She finished the night with 23 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks, and Atlanta completed a 3 and 0 season sweep of her old team.
Getting to 500 rebounds extends a record Reese already owned. On August 24, she pulled down 26 rebounds in a 78 to 71 win over the Los Angeles Sparks, the most any player has ever grabbed in a single WNBA game. That performance broke a single game record Chamique Holdsclaw had held for more than 23 years, and it carried Reese past A’ja Wilson’s single season record of 451.
Reese has chased that season record before. As a rookie with Chicago in 2024, she passed Sylvia Fowles’ old mark of 404 and finished the year with 446 rebounds, only for Wilson to close her season at 451 and take the record. Two years later, Reese took it back and kept going.
“Anything that goes up is mine,” Reese said after the Sparks game in August.
The rebounding numbers are one piece of a record heavy 2026. Reese reached 900 career rebounds in May in just 71 games, faster than anyone in league history. On August 30, she set the WNBA record for most games in a season with double figures in both points and rebounds, getting her 29th in a win over the Minnesota Lynx. Heading into Saturday, she was averaging a career high 16.5 points and a league leading 12.4 rebounds per game.
Her impact shows up in the standings too. Atlanta outscores opponents by 10.2 points per 100 possessions with Reese on the floor and plays about even when she sits. The Dream are now 28 and 14, have won 14 of their last 18 games, and hold the fourth seed with two regular season games left, both against the New York Liberty.
Chicago fell to 15 and 27 with its fifth straight loss.
