Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark Make History With Their All-Star Selections

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark have brought their long-standing on-court rivalry to the WNBA this season, but Reese is already thinking about the possibility of playing on the same team. In a recent interview with WSJ. Magazine, Reese discussed her history with Clark.

Reese, 22, shared her thoughts on the competitive nature of their relationship, especially after their matchup in the 2023 NCAA tournament, which drew significant attention. “Me and Caitlin have been playing against each other since we were kids. It’s just a part of sports. Trash-talking is normal in men’s sports, so we’re making that a part of women’s sports too. It’s just about being competitive,” Reese said.

She also expressed the idea of potentially being teammates in the future. “We’re both great competitors and we’ve brought a lot of fans to the league. Hopefully one day we can be on the same team,” Reese added.

Both Reese and Clark have played a role in increasing interest in the WNBA since being drafted this year. Attendance is up nearly 50%, and ESPN viewership has grown by 170%. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert noted the league’s rising popularity, with fan engagement increasing dramatically.

Reese mentioned how she started following Clark’s career while they were both in college, admiring her drive and seeing similarities in their approach to the game. “I’ve been watching her for a while and I see a lot of myself in her. She’s got that energy, and I really respect that.”
