Angela Stanton King is asking Donald Trump to make her the next White House press secretary, just hours after Katie Zacharia left the job only five days after taking it.

The Atlanta conservative activist made her pitch on Threads, complete with a photo of herself standing at the White House briefing room podium in a yellow dress. “At the end of the day, what the White House needs is a Press Secretary who’s not afraid to STAND on the truth, SPEAK the truth, has common sense, a sharp tongue, and ZERO tolerance for [expletive],” she wrote. “No scripts. No sugarcoating. No backing down.”
Then she made it plain. “President Trump, appoint ME. I promise I’ll get the job DONE,” she wrote, adding that “the ratings would be HISTORIC. The headlines would write themselves. And the group chats would be in SHAMBLES.”
The job opened back up Friday when a White House official confirmed that Zacharia is leaving. Trump named the Truth Social communications adviser and attorney to the role on Oct. 9, and she gave her first briefing on Oct. 13. Within days, she was facing heavy criticism over her performance at the podium and growing questions about her legal background.
Zacharia had replaced Karoline Leavitt, who stepped down at the end of August to spend more time with her family after the birth of her second child. Leavitt has since joined Fox News as a contributor.
Angela Stanton King is no stranger to Trump world. Trump pardoned her in 2020 for her role in a stolen car ring years earlier, and she has been one of his most visible Black supporters ever since. That same year, she ran for Congress in Georgia’s 5th District, the seat once held by the late Rep. John Lewis, and lost to Democrat Nikema Williams.
She is not the only one shooting her shot. Hours after news of Zacharia’s exit broke, Laura Loomer, the far right commentator and informal Trump adviser, posted, “Hear me out: Press Secretary Laura Loomer.” She said she would be “amazing” in the role and would bring her “binder full of receipts to every briefing.” Loomer also posted an edited photo of herself with blonde hair after people online joked that the job seems to require being white and blonde, like Leavitt and Zacharia.
Neither woman has been seriously floated by the White House. During the search to replace Leavitt, Trump publicly mentioned CNN commentator Scott Jennings and communications adviser Margo Martin as possibilities, and principal deputy press secretary Anna Kelly was also widely discussed. Several of those names are now back in the conversation.
Trump has not said who he plans to pick next. For now, the most powerful podium in politics is empty, and Angela Stanton King is making sure he knows she wants it.
