Academy Award Winning actress Anne Hathaway is once again calling out what she sees as “white privilege.”
This time, the actress is pointing her finger directly at white women whom she feels are complicit in their role of backing Alabama’s controversial abortion ban.
Hathaway took to her Instagram account to call out two white female lawmakers who played crucial roles in the recent passage of the bill that seeks to ban nearly all abortions in the state of Alabama, including in cases of rape and incest.
“Yes the anti-abortion movement is primarily about controlling women’s bodies under the premise (for many, sincere) of saving lives, and yes this law is primarily the work of white men,” she wrote in her post on Instagram.
“HOWEVER, a white woman sponsored the bill and a white woman signed it into law,” she continued.
The post, which has already received over half a million likes, did seem to polarize some of the actress’ followers.
But Hathaway made her position clear,
“As we’re resisting, let us also call out the complicity of the white women who made this awful moment possible, and which–make no mistake–WILL lead to the unnecessary and avoidable deaths of women, a disproportionate number of whom will be poor and/or black,” she said.
She urged her followers to speak up and to support campaigns like Yellowfund and to donate to planned parenthood.
