Chicago police have announced a new murder charge in the November 2015 shooting death of nine year old Tyshawn Lee, according to local reports.
Authorities say Dwight, 22, was charged on Monday in connection with the killing. Police say Tyshawn was lured into an alley while on his way to his grandmother’s house and shot. Investigators say the shooting was tied to gang retaliation, a claim reported by police that the boy’s father has denied.
Dwight was also charged in the death of a 19 year old woman killed weeks earlier. Police say he has been in custody since late November on unrelated gun charges. Corey, 27, was previously charged in the case.
A charge is not a conviction, and the legal process is ongoing. Our thoughts remain with Tyshawn’s family as the community waits for answers.
