Ballerific Fashion: Are The MUGLER Jeans Worth The Hype?

The cutout spiral denim jeans worn by celebrities and other top-tier influencers are coming back this winter season. But are the $500+ jeans worth it?

Founded by Thierry Mugler in 1973, the fashion house reimagined the fashion industry by making theatrical, architectural, and hyperfeminine clothes, often crossing gender barriers in the industry. The fashion brand was one of the first to incorporate non-traditional models, such as pornstars, drag queens, and transgender women. Responsible for the famous looks of Michael Jackson, Grace Jones, Beyoncé, and more, Mugler passed away in January 2022, leaving behind a dominating brand.

There’s not a defining moment when the aesthetic jeans came back in style, but loyal fans of Megan Thee Stallion, Kylie Jenner, and Beyonce all want the MUGLER look.

The jeans are designed to perfect and accentuate every curve and actually retail for a fine penny. For the majority of the jean to be transparent–or contrasted with a different color, asks the question, what’s the hype?

With sales driven mainly by celebrities, comfort may be the excuse for the overly expensive MUGLER jeans.

The MUGLER seam-detail Skinny Jeans are described as “jeans from MUGLER featuring blue, cotton blend, high waist, button fly fastening, belt loops, skinny cut, classic five pockets, exposed-seam detailing and contrasting panel detail,” per Farfetch.

The MUGLER site also describes the jeans using “bi-material denim and stretch denim,” advocating for a comfy fit.

And with the unique pattern jeans, many dupes out on the market are trying to compare. ZARA, Revolve, ASOS, and FashionNova are just some retailers competing with the jeans.

Therefore, if you can, it may be worth it to check out the original MUGLER jeans, but if you must ball on a budget, the dupes you can find at an online retailer are only missing the iconic MUGLER tag.
