Social media app, #TikTok has kept us entertained through its millions of users who use the app as a creative outlet, especially during the pandemic. The app has helped replace our #COVID-19 blues and anxiety with humor and social connection. But apparently, Ariana Grande is not amused by some users’ videos.

‪On Wednesday night, the 26-year-old Grammy winner expressed her feelings for wing-eyed, ponytail Grande impersonators that have recreated her “hard work” and “degraded” it on #TikTok. ‬

US Magazine reports, the singer reposted actor and filmmaker Jordan Firstman’s video that mimicked meme creators who trivialize artist careers. “Wait, I have an idea. What if we, like, we took a moment, like a small clip from a movie or a TV show, something that, like, an artist really poured their soul into and it, like, it just took them years to make and it was just an uphill battle the entire time. And when they finally got the financing, it was like they made it,” Firstman said sarcastically.

“What if we took a moment from that and we kind of, like, recontextualized it — like, does that make sense? And we put a completely arbitrary meaning onto that thing that the artist loves so much? Kind of, like, degrading its entire value. I just think that could kind of be, like, a fun, bitchy thing to do.”

Grande’s caption underneath the video, suggest that she not only relates but agreed with Firstman’s idea that it “degraded” its entire value.

“Omg can this please also double as your impression of the ponytail tik tok girls who think doing the cat valentine voice and that wearing winged eyeliner and a sweatshirt is doing a good impersonation of me … cause this really how it feels.” It’s safe to say Grande is not a fan of those impersonating her and her Victorious  character, Cat Valentine.

Creator Paige Niemann is one of the many Grande impersonators and has gone viral for her oversized sweatshirts, and Grande inspired ponytail that makes for an uncanny resemblance. Neumann told Entertainment Tonight that Grande has reached out to her with nothing but support. But after Grande’s rant, Neumann went live on Instagram and said her feelings towards the star has changed.

It is a bit of the hypocrisy since Grande herself has also impersonated celebrities such as Brittney Spears, Rihanna, and more. She apparently didn’t think it was degrading their craft.
