The San Antonio Police Department is currently investigating the mysterious death of an Army Drill Sgt after she was found shot to death in her car on New Year’s Day, Fox San Antonio reports.

Early morning on Jan.1, fire responders responded to what they had believed to be a car accident on 1-10 West Avenue.

Upon arrival, firefighters found Jessica Mitchell, 30,  shot and killed insider her car.

Mitchell, a fifth-generation member of the military, had recently received a promotion to drill sergeant, her childhood friend Francesa Toby mentioned.

“Why would anybody want to do this,” Jessica’s sister, Ashely Mitchell, asked.

“Why why why why? Why? Why do people do such heinous acts of crime for no reason? You know, like, human life is not material; it cannot be replaced.”

Hours before her death, Jessica was reportedly active on social media, Ashley noted.

“It was the same video of her party and having a good time being Jessica, you know, ringing in the new year and then that’s, you know that shortly after it, you know, it was just taken from her for no reason,” Ashley said.

The S.A Police and the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division are now investigating Mitchell’s death, says a Joint Base San Antonio spokesperson.

“We can confirm that Staff Sergeant Jessica Mitchell, a drill sergeant assigned to U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE), on JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, was pronounced dead at University Hospital San Antonio around 3 a.m. on January 1, 2021.”

“We are devastated by the tragic loss of Drill Sergeant Jessica Mitchell. Our sincere condolences go out to her family and friends. We are focused on supporting Drill Sergeant Mitchell’s family as well as her soldiers during this extremely difficult time,” Maj. Gen. Dennis LeMaster, MEDCoE Commanding General, said.

“The unit was notified by hospital personnel that Mitchell, who was on holiday leave at the time, was the victim of multiple gunshot wounds. San Antonio Police Department and the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the situation.”

Mitchell leaves behind a 10-year-old son.

“She was a beautiful, beautiful woman, she had a son, and he’s without his mom, and I just want to give my prayers to his to her family, to her son, to her son’s father,” Toby said.

The Mitchell family urges anyone who may have seen something to call authorities.

“We heard there was no witnesses,” Ashley said. “But it’s a highway. Someone had to see something.”
