The Atlanta Police officers responsible for the death of Rayshard Brooks have been charged.

On Wednesday, Fulton County district attorney Paul Howard issued arrest warrants and announced the charges in a press conference. According to WSB-TV, officer Garrett Rolfe, who pulled the trigger in the fatal incident, has been charged with 11 counts, including felony murder and aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, and violations to his oath of office.

Officer Devin Brosnan, who was present during the fatal arrest, has been charged with aggravated assault, in addition to two oath of office violations. The two are expected to turn themselves in at 6 pm.

During the press conference, Howard shared the overwhelming details of the fatal arrest and revealed that his office came to the decision to press charges after interviewing several witnesses and reviewing 8 videos of the incident.

After the fatal shooting, which took place in a Wendy’s parking lot, Howard said Brooks was kicked, and Brosnan stood on Brooks’ shoulders for more than two minutes before calling for help. Brosnan even confessed to the later after becoming a witness for the state.

Howard said his office also determined at the time that Brooks did not pose a threat to the officers, as he was running away when he was shot in the back by Rolfe.

To make matters worse, Rolfe reportedly said, “I got him,” after striking Brooks twice.
