Media company Overtime is building a basketball league in Atlanta where teens can play basketball and make thousands.
Teens aged 16 to 18 could make some major bands if they know how to ball. According to CNBC, Overtime Elite Basketball League will be paying teens over $100,000 a season to play in its league. The league is currently building a 103,000-square-foot complex in Atlanta’s Atlantic Station section. Players will also receive room and board within the building, where the students will also attend education courses. The news outlet reports that the project will be finished by September.
In a statement, OTE President and Commissioner Aaron Ryan said Atlanta’s “diverse population, vibrant business community, and rich culture” was unique when they were looking for a location. Overtime says the project would also supply an estimated 400 construction jobs. Thirty percent of those jobs will be given to “diverse hires.”
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said the announcement “underscores that Atlanta is still a great place to do business. Overtime Elite will bring several well-paying jobs to our city, generate millions of dollars in economic impact and expand mentorship and programming opportunities for our young people.”
Students will be able to play in the league and take on outside business ventures where they can receive compensation for their likeness and image. In addition, the teens will be offered education courses, life training, and financial literacy classes.
