Atlanta’s Trap Music Museum Calls Out A News Outlet That Wrongfully Associated Them With A Local Shooting: “This Is Why Black Businesses Continue To Get Closed Down!!!”

Atlanta’s Trap Music Museum is pushing back against a local news report that associated them with a nearby shooting.

On Wednesday, the news outlet 11 Alive released an article regarding a fatal shooting in northwest Atlanta. The museum claims that the initial headline stated, “Deadly shooting kills 1 at house near Trap Music Museum, police say.”

The article triggered the organizers of the museum, leading them to post a now-deleted statement and a series of photos on Instagram.

“This is how Black-owned businesses get shut down,” the first post read.

The second photo showcased a screenshot of the headline of the story. Meanwhile, the third included a Google Maps search highlighting that the museum was just an eight-minute walk from the shooting.

“This is why black businesses continue to get closed down!!! We are not a HEADLINE to your negative story!!! @ml115 @11alive,” the statement began. “Despite these false narratives that are pushed by our city media and bad reporters. We’ve done a great job of being a pillar in our community! No incidents and no violence.  @trapmusicmuseum has done nothing but uplift the community in a positive way through community clean ups, food/toy drives, mental health initiatives and other community based efforts in-which NO ONE seems to cover as much in the media.”

Nevertheless, 11 Alive has modified the headline of the story to eliminate any reference to the museum. The updated headline now reads, “Atlanta shooting leaves 1 person dead, police say.”
