Congratulations are in order for Array, as the film collective founded by Ava DuVernay in 2010 has acquired its first series. The company is dedicated to profiling people of color and women in the film industry.

“They’ve Gotta Have Us” will premiere on Netflix, and will document art, activism, and race in black cinema through an impressive collection of interviews and commentary about classic films such as “Do the Right Thing,” “Moonlight,” “Boyz in the Hood,” and many more.

According to a press release, The Simon Frederick created docuseries features interviews with some of Hollywood’s most influential black figures, including Whoopi Goldberg, Laurence Fishburne, Harry Belafonte, Robert Townsend, and the late John Singleton.

In a statement, Array president Tilane Jones spoke about the purpose of the project, saying, “As a company whose mission is to amplify the voices of people of color, They’ve Gotta Have Us speaks directly to our highest ideas of inclusion, cultural context, and community.”

The series will hit the streaming service on February 5th.
