You know what I hate, well, besides everything? Fine, I’ll tell you. I hate the ‘single people shouldn’t give relationship advice’ mentality. Where do people come up with this stuff? ‘Hmph, there’s a reason she’s single.’ While I have made plenty mistakes firsthand, I make an attempt to learn by observing. While driving, do you hit the same pothole as the person in front of you? No, you made a decision to maneuver to avoid it based on what you observed. Now you tell your friend “Girl, you may not want to drive down such and such street because the potholes are horrible!” or “If you have to take that route just be careful.” See how that works? According to a lot of women though, you aren’t allowed to give that advice unless you personally hit the pothole and now have four flat tires. That sounds ridiculous, right?
For the most part, I do not give unsolicited advice. My friends seek me out for my take on particular situations and I give it to them. I never tell someone what they should do even if they directly ask ‘What should I do?” but I will offer suggestions and tell them what I would do if it were ME and I leave the choosing up to them. I am not one of those friends whose solution is always to leave. ‘Oh, he came home 3 minutes late?! Leave him!’ “He squeezes the toothpaste from the middle?! Leave him!” “He doesn’t eat Chipotle?….Leave h….” wait, that one may be probable cause. I luh Chipotle, Chipotle is my liiiiiife. LEAVE HIM, GIRL!
Maybe taken women think that all of us single gals are bitter and hell bent on making other women single too. NAWL. That isn’t how it works. I have been taken on plenty ‘thank you, you helped me save my marriage’ dinners. No, I may not have a significant other but I do have a significant ability to learn by observing people and situations without having to experience them firsthand or be in the situation currently.’
