Baylor Fires Coach Briles & Removes President Starr After News Of Retaliation Against Sexual Assault Victims

Back in February, an investigation by ESPN’s ‘Outside the Lines,’ it has been revealed that Baylor University had a huge problem when it came to how they treated victims of sexual assault. Baylor University is a private school and is required by federal law,Title IX, to thoroughly investigate allegations of sexual violence and provide security, counseling services and academic help to victims. The ‘Outside the Lines’ investigation found several examples in which Baylor officials failed to investigate allegations of sexual violence. In majority of the cases, support was not even provided to those who reported assaults.

It gets worse than that, though. According to TMZ Sports, Baylor University officials not only discouraged rape accusers from coming forward, they have even gone as far as to retaliate against a rape accuser who did. A law firm is currently investigating the school and their report says that  University administrators directly discouraged complainants from reporting or participating in student conduct processes … contributing to a hostile environment.

“In one instance, those actions constituted retaliation against a complainant for reporting sexual assault,” said the report, though it doesn’t detail exactly what the retaliation was .

According to the report Baylor also failed to  “identify and respond to a pattern of sexual violence by a football player, to take action in response to reports of a sexual assault by multiple football players, and to take action in response to a report of dating violence.”

The school announced Thursday that they plan to remove Kenneth Starr as president and will fire head football coach Art Briles.

It’s not looking good for Baylor at all.
