The viral Oakland barbecue confrontation drew new attention this week after police records and recordings from the day became public.
The incident began when Jennifer called officials about Kenzie and his friends, who were using a charcoal grill at an Oakland park. A video of the exchange, about 25 minutes long, spread widely online. In it, Jennifer is heard speaking with police and describing the encounter, including claims about how she was treated. Kenzie and his friends have said they were simply barbecuing, and the video drew widespread criticism of the call.
According to reporting based on the police records, officers met Jennifer at a nearby store after her calls, spoke with her about what happened, and then concluded the encounter. The records also include comments made by a dispatcher during one of the calls. Baller Alert has not independently verified the records, and Jennifer has not publicly responded to the reporting we reviewed.
Oakland police have said they responded to the park after receiving the calls. We will update this story if officials share more.
