The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has officially ruled the tragic deaths of 19-year-old twin brothers, Qaadir and Naazir Lewis, as a double suicide. But for the Lewis family, the announcement has only deepened their pain and confusion.
The brothers, from Lawrenceville, were found shot to death on March 8th at the summit of Bell Mountain in Hiawassee, a remote and unfamiliar location with no clear ties to either teen. Authorities say the two were last seen traveling together and alone, as confirmed by surveillance video and cell data.
The investigation found that Naazir had ordered ammunition on March 5th, and both brothers had conducted online searches about suicide and firearms. Though Naazir went to the airport for a planned Boston trip on March 7th, he never boarded his flight and returned home. By the next day, both were dead.
Despite the GBI’s conclusions, the Lewis family strongly disputes the idea that the inseparable twins would end their lives.
“They’re very protective of each other. They love each other,” said uncle Rahim Brawner. “They’re, like, inseparable. I couldn’t imagine them hurting each other.”
Aunt Yasmine Brawner added, “We know them. They wouldn’t do anything like this. To say they did this to each other? No. Something happened in those mountains, and we want answers.”
The family has launched a GoFundMe to raise funds for a private homicide investigator, determined to uncover what they believe is the real story behind this heartbreaking loss.
