An SUV that multiple police sources told CBS 6 in Richmond belongs to former NBA All Star Ben Wallace crashed into a fence outside a home in Henrico County, Virginia, early Saturday morning, February 8.
According to CBS 6, the homeowner, Silverio, called 911 around 2 a.m. after hearing a loud boom near Gaskins Road. The crash took out a 20 foot section of his fence. He told the station he saw one person trying to get out of the vehicle and then a man smashing pieces of wood against the fence. He said he could not see the driver’s face. Police said the SUV was left at the scene, and Silverio said police found an expired insurance card inside listing Ben and Chanda Wallace as policyholders.
Henrico police would not confirm on the record who owns the vehicle. They are investigating the crash as a felony hit and run, and as of the CBS 6 report no one had been charged. No injuries were reported. Wallace has not commented, and a lawyer who once represented him on a traffic matter told the station he had no information about this incident.
The story picked up new attention online this week after an account identified as Chanda Wallace’s began posting a series of tweets about a personal dispute involving her husband. In those posts she connected the crash to that dispute. Those are her claims. Neither Ben Wallace nor police have confirmed them, and Baller Alert has not verified them.
No charges have been announced, so we will keep an eye on the investigation and update this story if police or Wallace respond.
