After being cut from the Cincinnati Bengals roster on Saturday, Defensive tackle Devon Still has been signed to the team’s practice squad so that he may be able to cover the expenses of his daughter’s cancer treatments.

Still has a 4-year-old daughter named Leah who was diagnosed with stage 4 pediatric cancer in June. It’s no wonder his mind hasn’t been on the game of football. After being cut Saturday, he was surprised that the team was compassionate enough about his situation to give him another chance.

“I completely understand where the Bengals were coming from when they cut me because I couldn’t give football 100 percent right now,” Still told ABC News. “They could have washed their hands with me and said they didn’t care about what I was going through off the field. It’s like a blessing in disguise for me.”

And a blessing it is. As a member of the practice squad Still will get to keep his medical insurance as well as receive a weekly salary of $6,300. Still is optimistic Leah they will beat cancer. Leah went for her fourth round of chemo last week.
