Fashion designer Rachel Roy says her email and phone were hacked in the wake of Beyonce’s album Lemonade. According to TMZ, the Los Angeles Police Department obtained a search warrant for phone and email records as part of an investigation, and Roy’s cell phone number was reportedly changed without her permission.
The attention began after the song Sorry referenced a woman called “Becky with the good hair.” Fans online speculated about who the lyric might be about, and some pointed at Roy. She denied being the person in the song. Shortly after the album came out, she posted a photo on Instagram with the caption “Good hair, don’t care,” which fans criticized.
Roy later spoke about the online reaction on Twitter, writing that she respects love, marriages, families and strength, and that bullying of any kind should not be tolerated. Roy is said to believe that the speculation among fans led to the alleged hacking, and TMZ reports that police believe the person responsible may be a fan of the singer. No arrests have been reported, and Beyonce has not commented on the claims.
The Lemonade lyrics have not named anyone, and the identity of the woman in the song has never been confirmed.
