Less than a week since news surfaced about Beyoncé covering the September issue of Vogue magazine, it appears her appearance will be a milestone!

According to HuffPost, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour gave Bey “unprecedented control” over the cover, which in turn has prompted Mrs. Carter to hire 23-year-old black filmmaker-photographer, Tyler Mitchell to shoot all of her photos for the publication. Bey’s decision, which is a first in the magazine’s 126-year history, is contrary to Wintour’s tradition to hire fashion photographers for the cover.

“The reason a 23-year-old black photographer is photographing Beyoncé for the cover of Vogue is because Beyoncé used her power and influence to get him that assignment,” a source tells HuffPost.

The historical feat will add to Mitchell’s growing resume of magazine shoots, which includes Teen Vogue, i-D Magazine, The FADER, and clients Mercedes Benz, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Converse, Nike, and Ray-Ban, according to the Atlanta-native’s website.

In addition to selecting Mitchell as the photographer of her fourth Vogue cover, Queen Bey also has full control over of her photos that appear inside the magazine as well as the captions, “which she has written herself and are in long-form,” the source added.

As details emerge regarding Bey’s takeover of the coveted fashion bible, rumors continue to swirl about the September issue marking Wintour’s last edition before exiting her 30-year post with the publication.

Earlier this month, WWD reported:

“Numerous industry sources have insisted in recent weeks that Wintour is indeed set to leave her 30-year post as editor-in-chief of American Vogue, with the reveal of a soft exit thought to be coming after the all-important September issue.” Despite the rumors, Vogue’s parent company Condé Nast has said Wintour is not leaving the magazine.

Do you think the September issue will mark Anna Wintour’s last as Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief?
