Bill safety Damar Hamlin has been discharged from Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute after being transferred there this week from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
The team said in a Wednesday statement that Hamlin was admitted there Monday for a “comprehensive medical evaluation as well as a series of cardiac, neurological and vascular testing Tuesday.”
“We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills,” Dr. Jamie Nadler, critical care physician and Chief Quality Officer at Kaleida Health, said in a statement through the team.
This good news comes a little over a week after the 24-year-old went into cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field during the team’s Jan. 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The team confirmed his heartbeat needed to be restored on the field.
Hamlin’s health progressed throughout the week, and his breathing tube was removed Friday.
Sunday, he was alert and watched his team’s game against the New England Patriots from his hospital bed. He was released from the Cincinnati hospital on Monday and transferred to Buffalo for more evaluation.
