Lil Wayne had just released his long awaited album, Tha Carter V, when his longtime mentor Birdman was back in the headlines over the 2015 shooting at the rapper’s tour bus.
Reports at the time said officials were looking into allegations that Birdman was involved in the shooting. Jimmy, the man convicted of firing the shots, was sentenced to 20 years, with 10 years in custody and 10 years on probation. Birdman and Young Thug were both named in connection with events before and after the shooting, but neither had been charged when this story was published.
Then a phone call surfaced. A recording reportedly of Birdman speaking with Jimmy was leaked online. In it, a voice said to be Birdman tells him it is “time for you to come out here and get your money.” Baller Alert has not independently verified the recording, and the reports did not include a response from Birdman.
There was also a development in a lawsuit filed by Alvin, the driver of Lil Wayne’s tour bus. According to that filing, officials obtained phone records showing that Young Thug called Jimmy eight times in the 12 minutes before the shooting. Those are claims made in the lawsuit and have not been proven in court.
At the time, the district attorney had not decided whether to file charges. We will let the facts speak for themselves as this one plays out.
